Aerospace Center of Excellence
Aviation history as well as the future of aviation roosts in our micropolitan community about 70 miles southeast of Nashville. Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base has been testing American airplanes and spacecraft for over 50 years. AEDC operates 58 test facilities on 40,000 acres. The work force numbers 2700 civilians and over 50 active military personnel. The complex has an $11 billion replacement value.
The facilities represent the most advanced and largest complex of flight simulation test facilities in the world. AEDC can simulate flight conditions from sea level to 300 miles altitude and from subsonic velocities to Mach 14.
Adjacent to Arnold Engineering Development Center is the University of Tennessee Space Institute, a graduate education and research institution. UTSI is a satellite campus of the University of Tennessee. In addition to the Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA), Tullahoma has 12 other aerospace entities including Jacobs Technology, Beechcraft Heritage Museum, Tullahoma Airport Authority, Schmiede Corporation, Ares Corporation, ATK Microcraft, Goodrich Landing Gear, Loehle Aircraft, Pratt and Whitney, and the Arnold Air Force Base.
