Mike Stanton, Alderman
Mike Stanton was first elected Alderman in 2008 and re-elected in 2011. He represents the City on the Tullahoma Utilities Board, Tullahoma Tree Board and chairs the Dream Tullahoma Committee. He also serves on the Internal Affairs Committee. He previously served on the Tullahoma Board of Education and the Pride Committee.
He and his wife Sara have lived in Tullahoma since 1967. From 1967-1970 Mike taught social studies at West Junior High. In the fall of 1970 he took a position as guidance counselor at Tullahoma High School. He also is a member of the Hands-On Science Center Building and Vision Committee.
Additionally, he coached girls track and basketball during his tenure at THS. In 1995 he retired from the Tullahoma City School System. After retiring, he took part-time positions at Willowbrok Golf Club in Manchester, drove a school bus for Tullahoma City Schools and reported golf tournaments for the Tullahoma News. Also, he is part owner of a travel business, Stanton Tours, with his wife Sara. He enjoys playing golf in his spare time. For 14 years he has been a support worker for Contact Lifeline in Tullahoma. Mike has held membership at Trinity Lutheran Church since 1971.
Mike and Sara have three children and five granddaughters. Their oldest daughter, Cindy Eads, lives in Tullahoma with her husband Calvin and their two children, Carly and Chloe. Cyndi works as an eligibility counselor for the Department of Human Services. Their son-in-law, Calvin, is a civil engineer and works at AEDC as an investment project engineer. Their son Shawn is a nuclear operator for the Harris Nuclear plant near Raleigh, North Carolina. He and his wife Jennifer have two girls, Emily and Meagan. Youngest daughter Joy teaches school in Knoxville. Her husband, Russell Smith, works for Michael Brady Construction Company in Knoxville, Tennessee as a project manager. They have two daughters, Ashlynn and Brooke.
