DRUC Increases Water Treatment CapacityDRUC Water Treatment Plant

The Duck River Utility Commission announced the completion of a $122,792.00 capacity expansion project at the membrane ultra-filtration water processing facility on TVA's Normandy Reservoir. With the installation of approximately 200 new state-of-the-art membrane filter modules, the DRUC facility can now deliver over 12 million gallons per day of pure drinking water to the communities it serves, providing a substantial increase in water supply availability for future growth, economic development and emergency response. The Commission currently supplies an average of approximately six million gallons per day to its service area with a peak production of nearly eight million gallons per day in June 2011. Each year the Commission supplies over two billion gallons of ultra-filtered water to approximately 60,000 area residents.

The DRUC, a regional water authority, provides high-quality potable water directly to the Tullahoma Utilities Board and other neighboring utilities for distribution to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Each utility also receives water quality testing services from the DRUC's certified laboratory. The Commission employs a professional staff of environmental engineers, microbiologists and State certified water treatment plant operators on-site twenty-four hours a day.

DRUC's water processing facilities utilizes an advanced treatment process available in only a few communities in the United States. The water purification process includes advanced treatment techniques such as hollow fiber membrane ultra-filtration and granular activated carbon contactors, producing ultra-pure water at a very economical cost. The DRUC's wholesale water rate of $1.20 per thousand gallons remains one of the lowest in the State of Tennessee. The availability of low cost, high quality water offers numerous opportunities for business and industry in the area.
