Commercial Fire Safety Inspections
The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Marshall review new construction plans for all commercial buildings and inspect new buildings prior to occupancy in conjunction with the Planning and Codes Department. New businesses are inspected after the City of Tullahoma Finance Department issues a business license. Businesses that are licensed to sell beer or wine are re-inspected annually. In addition, other existing businesses are routinely inspected, often by request of the business owner or a customer. The Tullahoma Fire Department endeavors to educate, advise, and recommend actions that will maintain the minimum life and fire safety elements as required by the Tullahoma Municipal Code. For new construction the 1994 Standard Building Code, the 1994 Standard Fire Prevention Code, and the 1994 Life Safety Code have been specifically adopted by the Tullahoma Municipal Code. For existing buildings the 1988 Standard Existing Building Code and the 1994 Standard Fire Prevention Code are used to determine life and fire safety code compliance. The Fire Department maintains a current library of the National Fire Prevention Association's codes as reference to the other adopted codes.
